주제 : Non-planar ALD-NbOx Neuromorphic Devices

In the existing current von Neumann computing architecture, data transferring accounts for almost 60 % of the total power consumption. As a technical mean to alleviate this problem parallel processing based on a neuromorphic scheme has been suggested. This scheme offers low power consumption and asynchronous computing timing, albeit processing speed is compromised. In this work, we suggest and demonstrate ALD-NbOx thin films as a core material for neurons. ALD process not only offers precise film thickness control but also conformal deposition on non-planar geometries. By utilizing a thin metal insert, the stoichiometry of NbOx was converted into NbO2, and reliable threshold switching characteristics was achieved. We also show the self-oscillations and coupled-oscillations of our ALD-NbOx neurons, which signify their direct applicability into energy efficient computing.
